Our Story
I’m Alex, and what started in 2014 with a single coffee van (and a dream) has now become West Berkshire Roastery - complete with two coffee roasters and a Labrador who thinks he’s the CEO.
Along the way, I uncovered some truths: coffee is the planet’s most sprayed crop. Pesticides? Chemicals? Absolutely everywhere. So, I ditched the usual beans and went on a quest for the good stuff: direct-traded coffees that don’t come with a side of artificial pesticides.
With a bit of Berkshire flair and caffeine-fuelled creativity, I’m here to bring you one of the finest (and cleanest) coffee experiences you’ll ever sip. I hope you’ll agree. It’s coffee refreshingly drama free.

A smooth, easy-going coffee with gentle brightness and a naturally sweet finish. White Gold opens with soft brown sugar and caramel notes, followed by delicate apple and a light citrus lift. Its rounded body and clean, silky texture make it wonderfully balanced, with no harsh bitterness and a mellow finish that lingers pleasantly.

Sourced from Sítio da Torre, a family-run farm in Brazil’s renowned Carmo de Minas, Minas Gerais, this coffee showcases just how sweet, rich and refined Brazilian coffee can be.
The farm is known for producing exceptional Yellow Bourbon, a variety prized for its natural sweetness, creamy body and beautifully rounded flavour. Grown high in the Mantiqueira mountains, the combination of altitude, fertile soils and careful harvesting allows the cherries to ripen slowly and develop plenty of sweetness.
We roast this coffee in small batches here in Berkshire to a smooth medium-light profile, bringing out all that natural sweetness without roasting away the character of the bean.
In the cup, expect milk chocolate, followed by a soft toffee apple sweetness and a rich, lingering finish. It’s silky, balanced and incredibly easy to drink.
It makes a cracking espresso, where those chocolate and caramel notes become rich and syrupy, but it’s equally good through filter or cafetière, where the sweeter, more delicate side of the Yellow Bourbon really comes through.

I'm really pleased I found this local roastery with such great tasting coffee. The White Gold is my new go-to coffee which forms the backbone of my coffee drinking. I have a 1KG bag on subscription which I then pad out with small bags from different places for variety, always knowing I'll be returning to one of my favourites. This works great in my Aeropress.

Decided to cut down on my coffee consumption, so I opted for quality over quantity. I started exploring small local coffee companies and found West Berkshire Roastery. Bought the 3 bag selection and compared it to supermarket beans.
Oh my god no comparison, I’ve turned into a coffee snob. I’ve gone elsewhere and come back and now WBR Signature and White Gold will be on repeat order.
Using a cheap scale, Timemore Chestnut C3S Pro hand grinder, and an Aeropress my mornings coffee is Awesome.

Decent coffee and light but I expected more aroma when it comes to V60 style since I buy light roasts for that purpose only.
This coffee is excellent and always arrives very fresh. I enjoy drinking it on weekends or in the afternoon when I am working from home, as the lighter roast provides a tasty pick-me-up without being too strong.
Amazing taste
White Gold is a really well rounded coffee but not as heavy and the bitterness is milder.
A great alternative if you are not over keen on stronger tasting coffee.
This still tastes best quality.
All coffee from West Berkshire Roastery tastes clean and fresh and lacks that bitter after taste. The White Gold is a lighter roast and has a milder taste. It works well with oat milk, I grind for Espresso to make lattes and the flavour comes through well. This sits well on the stomach which is good as i often drink my first before breakfast.
A wonderful lighter complement to Gold Blend.
This subscription is winning in a few ways, I was with another company but was finding it a bit manual to adjust delivery, so can easily do that here, love the packaging too, and postage is fast too. Most importantly the coffee roast is perfect for me, heading in the chocolate taste direction and the price you cant beat either for a kg of delicious coffee beans.
