Not a bad bean, a find it a light roasted espresso. It has the character of an espresso, the slightly chocolaty nutty but it's not a dark roast. It only becomes weaker when adding any milk to it. I normally prefer a cortado or macchiato but even then, the roast is light.
I only give it this rating not because it's bad in any way, I think it is mis-represented. I don't find this roast dark or bold in taste or appearance. The crema isn't super thick and the lightness lacks the mouthfeel of an italian espresso, which was my reason for purchase.
I’ve tried many other brands and West Berkshire stand clearly at the top! These beans a fresh and the notes come through beautifully, both in espressos and my milk based drinks, like Latte and Cappuccino’s. The value for high quality, organic beans cannot be matched.

Having made the switch from pods to a Bean to Cup machine I then set on the quest for the best beans. West Berkshire Roastery popped up on the socials, and it turns out they are in my town! Initially got the taster pack of three blends and started with Signature Gold. It was a true revelation from what I was used to. I’ve been through all the other taster options and some other specials, both from WBR and a couple of others that were Xmas gifts, but nothing hits quite like Signature Gold for me. To the point that it is so good that when I grab a coffee on the go they all pale into comparison and I know I get a better coffee at home. Really couldn’t recommend it any higher, and enjoy going to pick up my orders from the friendly staff
West Berkshire Roastery has completely transformed my mornings. The quality of the beans is immediately obvious, and the Simmer Down Decaf is a perfect example of just how good decaf can be when it’s done properly.
The flavour notes are exceptional and genuinely accurate, the vanilla fudge and caramelised biscuit notes aren’t just marketing fluff, they’re clearly present in the cup.
It’s rich, smooth and beautifully balanced, with loads of character and none of the dullness you’d normally expect from decaf.
What really sets it apart is the quality behind the scenes. All of their coffees are organic and lab tested. And this one uses the Swiss Water decaf process, which is widely regarded as the cleanest and most natural method available. You can really taste the difference no harshness, no chemical aftertaste, just clean, well developed coffee.
I brew 18g for a double espresso on a Sage Bambino Plus, usually as an Americano and sometimes as a latte and it performs brilliantly in both. It’s actually replaced my regular morning coffee and the fact that it’s decaf is something I never thought I’d say.
This isn’t just a good decaf, it’s an excellent coffee.

Our flat whites are very good. I was a little worried that the Signature Gold would be tooo bland but the taste is excellent (I should have believed the company's blurb!). I have not ground any for my dripper yet so I have kept that fifth star back until I do.
I ordered the beans by mistake instead of pre ground. I did get a note to double check which i didn't read until after so on me! I ended up enjoying the process of grinding the beans more. I also had the signature blend which I've had before, and the black has a more nutty note. Both are just really good. You really notice it against supermarket / corporate brands which are pretty dreadful once you try West Berkshire.
