Our Story
I’m Alex, and what started in 2014 with a single coffee van (and a dream) has now become West Berkshire Roastery - complete with two coffee roasters and a Labrador who thinks he’s the CEO.
Along the way, I uncovered some truths: coffee is one of the planet’s most sprayed crop. Pesticides? Chemicals? Absolutely everywhere. So, I ditched the usual beans and went on a quest for the good stuff: direct-traded coffees that don’t come with a side of artificial pesticides.
With a bit of Berkshire flair and caffeine-fuelled creativity, I’m here to bring you one of the finest (and cleanest) coffee experiences you’ll ever sip. I hope you’ll agree. It’s coffee refreshingly drama free.

Every order is small-batch roasted to order from single origin coffee grown on farms in Peru, then decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process — a 100% chemical-free method that leaves the finished cup 99.9% caffeine-free — while keeping the full body and flavour of a regular coffee. Swiss Water Process Decaffeination, Explained
Simmer Down is decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process — the only decaffeination method verified 100% chemical-free by third-party testing. Green coffee beans are soaked in Green Coffee Extract, a solution already saturated with everything in coffee except caffeine, so caffeine alone diffuses out through osmosis while every other flavour compound stays in the bean. No solvents, no carbon dioxide, no chemicals of any kind — just water. The result is a decaffeinated coffee that's 99.9% caffeine-free, with the same flavour clarity as the original green coffee. Decaf coffee still carries the antioxidants, magnesium, potassium and niacin found in caffeinated coffee — only the caffeine itself is removed.

The initial order will be dispatched within immediately (next working day).

After your first order, you will be prompted to create an account. Where you can swap or edit subscription details.
4) When will my coffee be delivered?
The date you set for your subscription, will be the day we process your order. Expect this to be delivered within 2-3 business days after this date. Please note if this day lands on a weekend or bank holiday, we will process it the next working day.
5) Is Simmer Down Decaf really caffeine-free?
Simmer Down is 99.9% caffeine-free. It's decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process, a 100% chemical-free method which removes almost all of the caffeine from the bean while preserving the coffee's natural flavour — so you get a proper cup, not a compromise.
6) How is Simmer Down decaffeinated?
We use the Swiss Water Process. Green coffee beans are soaked in a water-based Green Coffee Extract, which draws out caffeine through osmosis with no solvents or chemicals involved, leaving the flavour compounds intact.
7) Can I gift a decaf coffee subscription?
Yes — gift cards are available if you'd rather let the recipient choose their own subscription, and every order works just as well as a one-off coffee gift as it does a recurring plan.
8) Will I get the same coffee every time?
Yes — every delivery on this plan is Simmer Down Decaf, Peru single origin, not rotated with other coffee roasters' beans. If you'd prefer to try different coffees each month, our Seasonal Special coffee club plan changes the coffee monthly instead.

Bought this 3 times in a row now. And I will continue to do so. Best decaf coffee for home, I looked for Medium to dark roast, low acidity, nutty. It ticked all the boxes. Plus it has wonderful chart! I learned that any fruity note is too acidic for my taste. This is my go to forever coffee! Much better than the Grind at work or the coffee at we work. I always feel I miss my coffee when I’m having coffee not at home.

I'm not good at flavour notes, but I get almond/marzipan? Tasty anyway.
It's a relatively light roast for espresso, so the challenge as always is getting good enough extraction for a nice balance. For this reason it suits Moka especially well.
Gone are the days where the de-caf brew leaves you feeling something was missing from the taste.
As someone who loves coffee and is sensitive to caffeine; this has allowed me to keep my morning routine without the 'grumpiness' or 'backache' that I seem to get when I have a caffeinated brew.

First time trying West Berkshire Roastery and very impressed. The decaff is very smooth with a delicate flavour of vanilla and hazelnut. I drink it with oat milk which makes a nice nutty & creamy drink.

I’ve had a few different coffees from West Berkshire Roastery and they’ve been consistently great. This time I tried the Simmer Down 50% Decaf as I’m trying to cut back my caffeine intake a little. The coffee was a hit - really smooth and had body - and I would highly recommend it.
