Coffee Beans: The Heart of Every Cup

Coffee Beans: The Heart of Every Cup

At West Berkshire Roastery, we believe every great cup of coffee starts with the right coffee beans. Since 2014, we’ve been roasting specialty beans with care, bringing out the best flavours from farms around the world. Whether you’re a casual coffee drinker or a seasoned enthusiast, choosing the right beans—and understanding their journey—makes all the difference.

What Makes Coffee Beans Special?

Coffee beans are the seeds of the coffee cherry, grown in tropical regions across the globe. Once harvested, they’re processed, dried, roasted, and finally brewed into the coffee you know and love.

At WBR, we focus on Arabica coffee beans—renowned for their smooth body, sweetness, and vibrant flavour notes. These are carefully sourced from trusted farmers and roasted fresh in small batches to preserve their character.

Origins of Our Coffee Beans

Each origin tells its own story, and we’re proud to showcase a rotating range of unique single-origin coffees:

  • Brazil Terra Preta – smooth, nutty, and chocolatey. A classic choice for everyday drinking.

  • Peru Tunki (Organic, Fairtrade) – grown high in the Andes and washed with pure spring waters. Hard to source, but worth every sip.

  • Fazenda Jaguara (Natural) – fruity and complex, perfect for filter brewing.

  • Costa Rica Villa Sarchi (Medium Roast) – bright and balanced with gentle citrus notes.

  • Seasonal Specials – from rare micro-lots to playful creations like Brewnana (banana-milled coffee) or our Halloween-inspired Deliciously Devilish.

By buying directly from farmers and cooperatives, we ensure traceability, fairness, and consistent quality in every bag.

Roasting Coffee Beans at WBR

Roasting is where the magic happens. Our craft is in balancing heat, timing, and technique to bring out the natural sweetness and complexity of each origin.

  • Light roast beans highlight floral and fruity notes.

  • Medium roasts (our speciality) offer balance—great for both espresso and cafetières.

  • Dark roasts bring bold, rich flavours with a comforting smokiness.

Every roast is carefully profiled, ensuring the flavour in your cup truly reflects the beans’ origin.

Whole Bean vs Ground Coffee

We always recommend buying whole coffee beans for maximum freshness. Grinding just before brewing unlocks the full aroma and flavour. But if you don’t have a grinder, we’re happy to grind your coffee to suit your brew method—espresso, cafetière, AeroPress, or filter.

How to Store Your Coffee Beans

Freshness is key. Store your beans in an airtight container, away from sunlight, heat, and moisture. Our resealable bags make it easy to keep them at their best. For peak flavour, enjoy within 4–6 weeks of roasting.

Find Your Perfect Coffee Beans

Every coffee lover’s taste is different. At West Berkshire Roastery, we make it easy to explore and find your favourite:

  • Espresso drinkers will love our Signature Gold Range.

  • Filter coffee fans can explore seasonal single-origins for delicate, complex brews.

  • Adventurous sippers should try our limited-edition coffees—you never know what we’ll roast up next.
