I’m Alex, and what started in 2014 with a single coffee van (and a dream) has now become West Berkshire Roastery - complete with two coffee roasters and a Labrador who thinks he’s the CEO.
Along the way, I discovered that coffee is one big, tangled mess - dodgy practices and shady tactics all over the place. But there’s also a whole lot of amazing farmers doing it right. So, I ditched the usual suspects and set off on a quest for the good stuff: direct-traded coffees served with a generous side of transparency.
With some caffeine-fuelled creativity, I’m here to bring you one of the finest (and cleanest) coffee experiences possible. It’s coffee refreshingly drama free.
Is this coffee organic and tested for mycotoxins?
Our Roastery Collection consisting of Signature Gold, Black Gold & White Gold is fully independently lab tested for artificial pesticides, moulds and mycotoxins.
They are also 100% naturally grown, free of artificial pesticides & glyphosate. We no longer get these coffees certified by the Soil Association .

The Serra de Mantiqueira is a mountain range that stretches across São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro states. Located in Minas Gerais, the Mantiqueira de Minas area was the first to get a geographical indication in the Brazilian coffee industry (supported and developed by BSCA). This fresh approach, akin to ‘terroir’ in the wine industry, is redefining how people view specialty coffee from Brazil.
This light-to-medium roast (strength 2.5/5) is perfect for black or filter brews, offering a silky mouthfeel, medium body, and naturally sweet finish without bitterness. Organically Grown.

Located in Carmo De Minas, just outside the spa town of Sao Lourenco, Alvaro spends a huge amount of time tending his current crops of coffee, as well as looking to the future for the next crop. Currently the fourth generation in coffee, it wasn’t until 2002 that they started to focus on speciality coffee.
Alvaro had taken over running the farm after his father was injured in an accident. This has now expanded to the most recent purchase of a neighbouring plot of land that is organically growing Geisha, Catigua and Obata, after studying them over the last 5 years in another field.
They have won Cup of Excellence status no less than 29 times, and constantly evaluate processing methods. Yellow Bourbon is a predominant variety on the farm, and one in which the area is famous for.
Such is the reputation it has built, Alvaro has started moving a little in to tourism. Offering a farm stay experience on the farm and regular tours to tourists on the ‘circuito das aguas’, a route taking in many of the springs that the area is famous for.
